Daniel was the son of Daniel David Heck and his second wife Susanna Zollman. He was born in Frederick County, Maryland on 7 October 1786. On 11 October 1812 he married Nancy Cahoon, daughter of Charles Cahoon, in Botetourt County, Virginia. He was a wagonmaker and operated a blacksmith shop. He went to Walden, West Virginia, a community about 10 miles south and east of Charleston to build boats. He died there on 1 May 1862.

According to Arch Heck's The Descendants of Daniel David Heck, both Daniel and Nancy are buried in High Bridge Presbyterian Cemetery, near Natural Bridge, Rockbridge Co, Virginia.
