Evelyn Schwan Rogers 91, of Ashland passed away Monday afternoon April 10, 2017, at Brookwood Place in Ashland.

Evelyn was born in Durham, England, on Jan. 23, 1926, and was the daughter of John and Ada Cruddace Metcalf. She was proud to say that she completed her public education in England.

She had been a resident of Ashland since coming here as an English war bride in 1946.

Mrs. Rogers was a homemaker. She had worked at the County Extension Agency, Philway Co. and the Carpenter's Men Store.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland and had been the head cook of the Hunger Center at the church. She was also the head cook at church camp where she was affectionately known as "Cookie." She was also a member of the Ashland Fire Auxiliary and worked the firemen's tent at the Ashland County Fair for many years. She was a volunteer for over 30 years at Samaritan Hospital. She enjoyed cooking, baking (she was known for her pies), knitting, and enjoyed playing bingo at Brookwood Place.

On May 30, 1945, she was married to Frederick E. Schwan, who preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1982. She was then married to Donald D. Rogers on March 4, 1989, who preceded her in death on May 13, 2014.

She is survived by three daughters, Teresa Kowalski of Elyria, Patricia Plank of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Patricia (Jim) Chandler of Ashland; her daughter-in-law, Karin Schwan of Ashland; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Bowens, Michael Kowalski, Susan Reinhardt, Stacie (Plank) Reyes, Matthew (Calley) Chandler, Jonathan (Kori) Chandler, Jeffrey (Lynzie) Chandler, Nicolaus (Lisa) Schwan and Christopher (Michelle) Schwan; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Joy (Fred) Sharp of Weymouth, England; and her special friend, Fern Rock "Toots" of Titusville, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Frederick E. Schwan and Donald D. Rogers; her son, Frederick W. Schwan on Sept. 22, 2016; and her son-in-law, Jerry Kowalski on Aug. 25, 2016; five brothers, John, Wilford, Len, Alan and Gordon; and three sisters, Ethel Pell, Ada Chalwin and Mary Knight.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday April 15, 2017, at Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Namy officiating. Burial will be in Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Saturday, April 15, 2017. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky St., Ashland, Ohio 44805; or the Captain Fred Schwan Firefighter/paramedic Scholarship in care of the Ashland Community Foundation, 300 College Ave., Ashland, Ohio 44805.

The family of Evelyn Rogers would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the staff of Brookwood Place for the compassionate care shown to Mrs. Rogers during her stay there.
