Virginia Ruth Probst, 85, of Effingham passed away at 5:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A Mass celebrating her life will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony schools or St. Anthony Hospice.

Virginia was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Effingham County, the daughter of Kenneth and Mae Gillespie. She married Raymond Probst on Sept. 11, 1948, and he survives. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham.

Virginia worked in her younger years at the Heart Theatre and Norge in Effingham and later at G.C. Murphy's in downtown Effingham. She loved working in the stockroom with her co-worker, Ruth, and would fill in at some of the other departments. Her sister, Vera, managed the Murphy's Snack Bar and would often recruit her to work there. Virginia was co-owner of the family business, Probst Amoco, with her husband, Ray and son, David. She did the daily bookkeeping for the Station and balanced to the penny.

Known for her sweet smile, Virginia made friends with everyone that came in contact with her. She loved visiting with her family, especially her grandkids. Not a day would go by that she didn't ask about them. Grandma Ginia as she was known to her great-grandkids, enjoyed her family most of all in this world. Each one of her grandkids can share many, many stories about their time with Grandma, whether it be going down the road in the Riviera or Saturday morning coffee and donuts followed by a stop at the Thomas Shop and Jansen's.

Virginia was dedicated to her husband, Ray, who was always at her side. She loved to dance and have a good time with her group of lady friends. She will be terribly missed by all who knew her.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Ray; son, David; daughters, Dixie (Bruce) Hartke and Cindy (Terry) Dalton; grandchildren, Todd Probst (fiancee, Kristin), Seth and Maci, Stacey (Rick) Hoene, Madilyn, Grace and Drew, Kari (Josh) Thompson, Bennett, Henry and Mason, Doug (Megan) Probst, Anna, Jacob and Sam, Shawn (Kindra) Hartke, Brandon, Mandy (Bart) Wiedman, Ty and Maddox, Jessica (Alan) Clayton, Olivia, Justin (Heather) Dalton and Courtney Dalton, Max; and her sister, Vera Vonderheide.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wayne, Harold, Delbert, Gene and Bob; sister, Velda Knight; daughter-in-law, Marlene Probst; father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Clara Probst; sister-in-law, Lucille Probst and brother-in-law, Tony Probst.
