John Gorr Memorial visitation for John Gorr, 83, will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial services at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road (1/2 block east of Route 53), Rolling Meadows. Private interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights. Born June 6, 1924, in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago, to Gottfried and Amalia (nee Pfeifer) Gorr, he died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007. John was a Navy veteran of World War II from July 23, 1943 until April 23, 1946. He served aboard the USS Mississippi in the Pacific Theater of Operations, where he received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon 2 Stars, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon 6 Stars, American Area Ribbon and Victory Ribbon World War II. John was a union carpenter for over 60 years and a life member of the American Historical Society of German Russians. John was married to his wife and best friend of the late Carolyn (nee Swenson) for 51 years; and was the father of Christopher (Pam) Gorr, Eric Gorr and Carrie Gorr; grandfather of Amanda Gorr; and brother of David, Alex, Bill Gorr and Bertha Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry and Gottfried Gorr; and sister, Molly Cano. Memorials may be made to the American Historical Society of Germans Russians, c/o AHSGR CIS Fund, 631 D St., Lincoln, NE 68502.
