James "Jim" P. Wieser was born January 26, 1930 on the family farm near Humphrey to Henry and Emma (Kopetzky) Wieser. He grew up on the farm and graduated from St. Francis High School. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean War. He returned to the Columbus area where he went to work at Becton Dickinson where he met the love of his life. Jim was united in marriage to Veronica "Vernie" Vetick on October 2, 1956 at St. Bonaventure Church. He retired from BD's in 1985. Jim was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW, and American Legion. Jim was very active in the American Legion where he served on the Honor Guard for 25 years. He was a member of the honor guard committee and awarded the Keith Bryan Award for his service. Along with his wife Vernie, he was selected as the first recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award and also received the prestigious honor of a Lifetime Membership. Jim volunteered as a cook for the Legion fish fry and chicken feeds. Jim enjoyed social times with his friends and family.
