Mrs. Miles died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at home.

Janet Hoose Miles was born on July 6, 1916, in Carlsbad to Arthur M. and Lesbia S. (Halsey) Hoose. She attended St. Edward Catholic School until 8th grade. Janet then attended Carlsbad High School, graduating with the class of 1933. During WWII, she was employed by the U.S. Post Office.

In November of 1945, Janet married Jesse Conrad Miles at St. Edward Catholic Church. Following their marriage, Janet and Jesse made their home in Loving before moving to Carlsbad, where Janet was a homemaker and piano teacher. She was the organist for Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Loving as well as St. Edward Catholic Church where she continued being involved both as organist and member of the "11th Hour Choir". Jesse passed away in September of 1959. Janet never remarried as she felt that Jesse was her only true love.

Those of us who were privileged to have had Janet in our lives knew her as a person who had a deep love for music, in which she was incredibly gifted. During her teenage years, Janet played piano for a local high school band, "Bobbo and His Rhythm Rascals". They were a favorite band for many of the school dances and other get-togethers.

Janet had a wonderful sense of humor. She touched many lives and was blessed with many friends.

Janet was a devoted wife and dedicated mother who will be greatly missed by her six children: Carol, and husband Thomas Archer, of Tucson, Ariz.; Norman, and his wife, Willene, of Lovington; George, and his wife Carole, of Albuquerque; Margie, and her husband, George Hughes, of Carlsbad; Marie Vincent of Evans, Colo.; and Patricia, and her husband, Ed Brown, of Carlsbad. Janet is also survived by her sisters; Phyllis Battiste of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Geraldine Stevens, of Crawfordsville, Ind.; Barbara Birdwell of Alamogordo, as well as 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, and by her youngest sister, Patty Hoose and her parents.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Charles Comstock, Benjamin Comstock, Paul Hughes, Michael Gause, and great-grandsons John Gause and Christopher Gause.
