Bernard Schlepphorst, and his wife, the former Henrietta Zurborg, welcomed an infant son 30 December 1897 in Quincy Illinois. They named their new son Francis Schlepphorst.

Francis Schlepphorst received his education from St. Francis Academy and what was then named St. Francis college (now called Quincy college) in Quincy Illinois. He then continued at Kenrick Seminary, in St. Louis.

Francis Schlepphorst was ordained to the priesthood 10 June 1922, by Cardinal John J. Glennon.

Father Francis Schlepphorst celebrated his first solemn holy mass 11 June 1922 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Quincy Illinois.

Father Schlepphorst served with churches in cities including Effingham, Edwardsville, Litchfield, Sainte Marie. He also served as chaplain for St. Francis hospital in Litchfield. He served as chaplain for St. John's hospital in Springfield Illinois. He served as an administrator for St. Mary's Catholic church in Quincy Illinois.

He then served as pastor of St. John's Catholic church 5 July 1945 through his retirement (from active ministry) on 8 April 1970.

Father Francis Schlepphorst celebrated his 50th anniversary in the priesthood, 23 April 1972 at St. John's Catholic church.

Father Francis Schlepphorst passed away 9 September 1980 at a retirement center in Fort Worth Texas. One brother had predeceased Rev. Schlepphorst, and another brother survived to mourn his loss.
