LEWIS ERBES [sic]

Last rites were held Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 17th at Foley's Funeral Home in Hartley for Lew Erbes who passed away Friday, Oct. 13th after a short illness at the University Hospital at Iowa City. Lew had not been in good health for several years but continued with his work as mechanic until a very short time before he went to the hospital.

The deceased was born in Illinois on Nov. 8th, 1886 [sic]. In 1905 he moved with his parents and family to Hartley where he has lived continuously ever since.

He was employed for about a year at the Ira Steele foundry and since that time had worked for various dealers as mechanic and for a time worked independently as he was doing at the time of his passing.

His parents and one brother preceded him in death several years ago and he was laid beside them in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Those remaining are two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Mallett of Sioux City and Mrs. Florence Reyman, and three brothers, Carl W. of Round Lake, Minn., Frank W. and William of North Dakota.

Services were conducted by the Rev. B.H. Romanowski of Trinity Church. Music was furnished by a quartette consisting of Mrs. Sieb Johnson, Mrs. Everett Selken, W. R. Wagner and Rev. Romanowski with Mrs. Gobel Graves at the piano. The songs were "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling" and "Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us." Pall bearers were Harry Stoterau, Ed Brown, Emil Dietz, Emil Muhs, Ed Swanson and Carl Charlson
