1857- Hans Behmer - 1932
Hans Behmer was born at Eitstedt near Schleswig Holstein, Germany on the 31st day of December 1857 and died at Cherokee, Iowa on Nov. 2, 1932, having attained the age of 74 years, ten months and two days.
In the year of 1862, at the age of 25 years, he came to America, arriving at Cadillac, Michigan in the spring of that year. In the fall of 1882 he left Cadillac, Mich. for Tama, Iowa, where in the year of 1883 he was united in marriage to Catherine Fedderson. In the year of 1884 they came to Sutherland, Iowa where he was engaged in carpentry until 1925 when he had to quit the trade on account of the illness which alter caused his death.
Unto this union eight children were born, of which four have preceded him in death. They are Carl, John, Mary and Albert. The four remaining children are William C. of Merriman, Nebr., Otto H. and Herman J. of Sutherland, and Hilda M. now Mrs. Harry Engelbrecht of Omaha, Nebr. His wife died on December 16, 1926. Besides the four children, he leaves to mourn his departure five grandchildren, a number of other relatives and many friends.
