Son of John Lawton and Betty Bottomley

Arrived aboard the 'Matoaka' 22 Jan 1857

Died at 'Mount Pleasant', Bellmount Forest

Interred 24 Oct 1900

OBITUARY. — I very much regret to have to record the death of Mr. John Lawton, sen., of Mount Pleasant. The cause of death is said to have been bronchitis. Deceased had only been ill three or four days, and early on Sunday morning last he passed away at the age of 68 years. He was a very old resident of the place, and was highly respected throughout the district. The funeral, which took place on Tuesday, was largely attended. The Rev. W. Pearson officiated at the grave. Deceased leaves a widow and a large grown up family, most of whom are married. — Another sad event occurred in connection with the same family on Monday, when a little child, aged about 18 months, and the only child of Mr. John Lawton, jun., was drowned. Much sympathy is expressed for the sadly bereaved ones of both families.
