Fred Busse, a local retired merchant, age 64, died October 20, 1922 in Red Bud, Randolph County, Illinois. Born on September 14, 1858 in Prairie, he was the son of Anton Busse and Elsiabeth, nee Langbein.

His mother died when he was 2 years old and his father died 4 years later. He, along with his brother Henry, went to live with the Fred and Caroline Penningroth family in Prairie, and remained with them until their death.

His parents and a sister, Sophie Schuette, preceded Fred in death. A brother, Henry of Red Bud, and a half-sister, Wilhelmine Rathert of Bradley, Jackson County, Illinois, survived him

On March 24, 1872 he was confirmed by Rev. Schaller and remained a member of St. John’ Lutheran Church until his death.

Fred never married.

Rev. J.H. Hartenberger of St. John’s Lutheran Church conducted funeral services and burial was on October 23, 1922 in the church cemetery.
