He worked as a draftsman before joining the Air Force during the Korean War and serving with the Strategic Air Command in Guam. He attained the rank of sergeant. After leaving the military in 1956, he studied at the Cooper School of Art and the Cleveland Institute of Art.
During his career, Mr. Theodore did graphic arts, handled advertising, and created trade show exhibits for three Cleveland companies. He worked for the Pyronics and Gas Machinery companies before retiring from the North American Manufacturing Co. as a graphic designer and advertising manager in 1995.
Since moving to Fairview Park in 1977, Mr. Theodore volunteered for numerous school and community functions. His efforts were honored three weeks ago when Mayor Karl Kubb proclaimed May 14 as Nick Theodore Appreciation Day in Fairview Park.
Mr. Theodore served on the Fairview Park Board of Zoning and Building Appeals and the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee. He designed the Fairview Park Recreation Department logo and organized fund-raisers for Fairview Park school and recreational sports programs.
He also served on the Fairview Family Summer Fest Committee and made signs for the event, including those placed on cars carrying the mayor and the citizen of the year in the festival parade.
Besides his wife, Mr. Theodore is survived by daughters, Debra Hobt of Fairview Park and Karen Sworney of Cleveland; son, Nick Jr. of Avon; five grandchildren; and two brothers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the new chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted .
