Artist. He was one of the most prominent Latin American painters of the 20th century. He was noted for his large fresco wall works, which helped establish the popular mural movement in Mexican art. At the age of ten, he studied art at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City and was sponsored to continue study in Europe in the early 1900s. From 1913 to 1917, he enthusiastically embraced his new style of art, embracing simple forms, social life, and history with large patches of vivid colors. His paintings began to attract much attention, and he soon was able to display them at several exhibitions. Between the 1920s and 1950s, his many murals were featured on the walls of cities such as Paris, Mexico City, New York City, San Francisco, Havana, and Chapingo, Mexico. Many of his painting are on permanent display in worldwide gallerias and museums to this date. According to the television show, "Antique Roadshow," his paintings are being sold in the 21st century for $1,000,000. He died of heart failure at age 70.
