She won the Gold Medal in the Women's 10-metre Platform event, besting Great Britain's Beatrice Armstrong and Sweden's Ewa Olliwier with a score of 173.0. She was the first Danish woman to win an Olympic Gold Medal and the first Dane of either gender to win an individual Gold Medal, as previous winners were part of team competitions. After retiring from competitive diving in 1924, her became a referee in referee for diving tournaments in Denmark. She was posthumously inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1988.
