Family Makus came from Pommern, Germany today Poland. These were German immigrants. At the beginning of the 18th century they came from Germany at first to Poland and then to Volhynia Government. At the beginning of the 19th century many Germans emigrated from Russia to Canada or USA.

1911 Ferdinand immigrated to America. From Bremerhaven (Seaport in northwestern Germany, on the North Sea coast) to Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Ship "Chemnitz", on the road 11 May - 25 May 1911. Ferdinand was traveling with the family Roloff under the wrong name of David Wollmann. He was underage 17 years old.

22 SEP 1916 Ferdinand married Josefa Roloff in Menno, SD.
