Family Makus came from Pommern, Germany today Poland. These were German immigrants. At the beginning of the 18th century they came from Germany at first to Poland and then to Volhynia Government, Russia, now Ukraine.

Until 1880 the family Makus lived in Poland, then in Zhytomyr, Volhynia Government. 1897 family Makus immigrated with her children to Canada. Amalie Makus stayed in Volhynia, because she founded a family. She was the oldest daughter.

1893 Amalia married Heinrich Ott in Zhytomyr, Russia today Ukraine.
They had 3 children: Olga, Ferdinand and Anna.

1908 her husband Heinrich immigrated to his parents-in-law in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They also paid his ticket in the hope that the whole Amalie's family will come over afterwards.

1911 the son Ferdinand immigrated with friend family Roloff to Menno, Hutchinson, S.D., USA.

The families lose sight of each other. In Russia were a great political unrest.

1915 daughter Anna married Reinhold Schulz. In the same year, all are forcibly expelled from Volhynia and deported to Volga-Germans-Republic. The hope for a family fusion disappears definitively.

1930 Amalia died of a famine. Her grave was destroyed in World War II.
