She was born September 20, 1930 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin to the late John and Leona (Kanzelberger) Mrotek. Rita attended school in Butte des Morts and in Winneconne. She married Robert M. Carow on October 4, 1947 in Winneconne. He preceded her in death.
Rita worked in a bakery and as a clerk in three different grocery stores in Winneconne. She also had waitressed in two different supper clubs. Rita was active for a few years and had served as president of the Winneconne Historical Society.
She married Robert L. Starnes on May 31, 1979. Rita managed various motels and housing for the elderly in Winneconne and Omro, retiring in 2000. Rita’s husband Bob preceded her in death. She enjoyed helping others and spending time with her family. Rita will be remembered by her family for her wonderful sense of humor and the way only she could do things.
Rita is survived by two daughters, Marie Carow, of Park Falls; Marlene Olson, of Omro; four sons, Robert Carow, of Omro; Randal (Carole) Carow, Richard (Sue) Carow, and Michael Carow, all of Winneconne; two step-daughters, Julie (Jim) White, of Evanston, Wyoming; and Marcia Norris, of Salt Lake City, Utah; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Marian (Ralph) Evans, of Munds Park, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Along with her parents and both husbands, Rita was also preceded in death by an infant son, John Carow.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, with Pastor Dan Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh. Family and friends may call on Friday, September 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service.
