Actress. Born Elizabeth Ann Wedgeworth, she was a character actress who was known for her appearances on the theatrical stage, in films, and on television during a career that span six decades. Her best known acting roles were of Lana Shields on the 1970s ABC sitcom "Three's Company" in 1979 and of Merleen Elldridge on the 1990s CBS sitcom "Evening Shade". After graduating from the University of Texas, she moved to New York City and auditioned several times before being admitted into The Actors Studio. She made her acting debut in 1957 on the television series "Kraft Theatre." Besides "Three's Company" and "Evening Shade," her other television credits included "Another World," "The Edge of Night," "The Defenders," "Hawk," "One Life To Live," "Trapper John M.D.," "Filthy Rich," "The Equalizer," and "Roseanne." She also appeared in numerous films during her career such as "Scarecrow" (1973), "Bang the Drum Slowly" (1973), "Citizens Band" (1977), "My Science Project" (1985), "Sweet Dreams" (1985), "Made in Heaven" (1987), "Miss Firecracker" (1989), "Steel Magnolias" (1989), and "The Whole Wide World" (1996). She made many theatrical performances both on and off Broadway during her career and won a Tony Award in 1978 for her performance in the play "Chapter Two." She passed away after a long illness.
