Hester Charlotte Fleming, age 104, passed from this life on November 18, 2017, at Valley View Nursing Home, Boise, Idaho.
Hester was born March 10, 1913 in Lakefield, Minnesota to Charles and Effie Greiner, the third child of six. In her early childhood, they moved to the family farm near Blairsburg, Iowa. She graduated from Blairsburg Consolidated School in 1930. She furthered her education at Webster City, Iowa Junior College and Cedar Falls, Iowa Teachers' College. She then attended Boone Biblical College, Boone, Iowa, where she also taught grade school. There she met Frank Fleming of Runnels, Iowa. They graduated in 1934 and were married May 26, 1935.
After Frank graduated from Minnesota Bible College, they had ministries in Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wyoming. In 1950 they came to Boise to work at the Christian Children's Home where Frank served as superintendent and Hester did the cooking. In 1961 they left Boise and after a short ministry in Oregon, they moved to San Jose Bible College in California to serve as dorm parents, in the cafeteria and with maintenance.
In 1974 they returned to the Children's Home in the position of public relations until their retirement. Frank passed away on August 7, 1997. Hester spent her retirement years at the Boise Christian Retirement Home and her last years at Brookdale Assisted Living and Valley View Nursing Home.
Hester was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ. She was a loving mother and homemaker who liked to cook and was affectionately known as the cookie grandma. She especially loved playing the piano and sharing her musical abilities with others. Hester was a devoted helpmate, serving the Lord alongside Frank throughout their ministries.
Survivors include her son James Fleming (Donna), her daughter Mary Bowman (Dewey) and 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Fleming, daughter Ruth Poff, son-in-Law Melvin Poff, grandson John Poff, four brothers and one sister.
