Leo Gareis, of the Flush community was fatally injured late Monday when a 20 foot log that was accidentally jarred loose from a truck fell on top of him, pinning him down and crushing his chest. Mr. Gareis was helping some men unload a pile of saw logs at the Dekat home about three miles northwest of Westmoreland, when the accident occurred.
Born August 10, 1902, in the Flush community. Mr. Gareis had lived in the Flush community most of his life, being a farmer.
Surviving him are his wife, Isabel, and one daughter, Anna Jean of the home; two other daughters, Mrs. James Muir of Manhattan and Mrs. J. N. Saffelder of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his mother, Mrs. Susan Gareis of Flush; two brothers, John Gareis of Wamego, and Andrew Gareis of Westmoreland; and three sisters, Mrs. G. A. Richmond of Wamego, Miss Lena Gareis of Flush and Miss Marie Gareis of Nortonville.
A Requiem Mass will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Flush, this Thursday morning at 9:00 a. m. with Reverend Biehler celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Flush.

Leo met with an unfortunate accident while unloading logs from a truck. He was helping some men unload some logs at the home of Clem Dekat (about 3 miles north of Flush) when the accident happened. A 20 ft. log fell on top of him, pinning him down and crushing his chest.
