John P. Artzer With Santa Fe Many Years Before Retirement.

John Peter Artzer, 79, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 213 Van Buren street. He was born Aug. 16, 1857 in Russia, and came to Topeka 44 years ago.

He was employed by the Santa Fe shops 23 years, living in retirement the last 11 years. He is survived by one son, John J. Artzer, and five daughters, Mrs. George Herschfield of Lawrence and Mrs. J. C. Krentz, Mrs. Stephen Stramel, Mrs. Andrew Steinbach, and Mrs. Joseph Schneider of Topeka. There are 37 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock at St. Joseph's Church. Burial is to be Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The body will lie in state at his home from 9 o'clock Sunday morning until the time of the funeral.
