Jerald was the son of the late Robert Charles Rutherford and Orene Onalee Wright Rutherford. He was born on Sun Mountain above Caryville, Campbell County, Tennessee 27 November 1942 and went home to be with his loving Lord on 23 April 2020 at this home in Bean Station, Grainger County, Tennessee.

Jerald was a 1960 graduate of Black Star High School, Alva, Harlan County, KY and graduated from Auto Body Paint and Repair at the Harlan Area Vocational School on 1 October 1962.

He served his country in the U. S. Army from 1965 to 1967 at Fort Jackson, Fort Dix and Camp Drum.

He had worked in the auto body shop at Cumberland Ford in Middlesboro for a number of years. He obtained his associates degree from UK and taught vocational school at Old Bell Hi before working for Tommy Evans' coal company at Pathfork, Harlan County, KY. He had lived at Insull coal camp, Pineville, Middlesboro, Bird Branch and Tugglesville before building their home in Bean Station.

Jerald began dating the love of his life in 1963 and married Joan Howard, on 6 December 1966.

Jerald was known for his prowess with wood working. He made thousands of small wood crosses to give out individually or bags full so others could spread the gospel. His wood working shop was always busy with bowls, salt and pepper shaker stands, paper towels stands, napkin holders and beautiful walking canes. He made numerous wood items for the church to use in their services.

He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on 27 July 1974 at a revival at the Blackmont Missionary Baptist Church and he never looked back. Everyday thereafter was in service to his Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joan and brother Bradley.

He is survived by brothers Bruce and Jeffrey, sister-in-laws Pat Howard (John) Brown and Wilma Helton Howard, four nephews, numerous cousins and friends and his family at Noeton Missionary Baptist Church.

He served the Lord every day. He was the senior deacon at Noeton Missionary Baptist Church on Lake Shore Road, Superintendent of Sunday School, and sang in the choir. Jerald and Joan both gave of their time to the Senior Citizens Center of Grainger County and Girls' Night Out.

He never met a stranger and all who met him quickly became his friend. Every day of his life he was the "Church" and his light shown bright until the Lord called him home.

Rejoice, Rejoice for he has gone home and he has gazed upon the face of God and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
