On March 15, 1946, he was born with the given name Raymond Wayne to Thomas and Mary Stanger in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ray attended schools in the Idaho Falls area.
Ray loved his country even at an early age. He voluntarily joined the United States Army in January of 1966. He served honorably in the Vietnam War. Ray was a member of the American Legion, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2146 and the Vietnam Veterans of American in the Idaho Falls chapter.
In November 1971, he married the love of his life Roxann Moedl. It was a small but beautiful family ceremony. Together they had two children Brandy Nicole and Bradley Ray. They created many wonderful family memories in the 46 years they shared.
Ray enjoyed traveling the lower 48 states and some of Canada while being a "professional tourist". He was a long haul truck driver and heavy equipment operator.
He also had a love for the outdoors. Some of the things he enjoyed was fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, picking huckleberries, long Sunday drives that usually included a picnic and camping. All of these activities included his family.
Ray is survived by his loving and caring wife, Roxann; daughter, Brandy (Eric) Skaar; son, Brad (Laci) Stanger; his grandchildren that he cherished and was so proud of Brett (Nichole) Skaar, Brady (Alyssa) Skaar, Hailie Stanger and Hannah Stanger and a great grandchild on the way; brothers, Lloyd (Linda) Stanger and Calvin (Darla) Stanger; sisters, Patricia Daniel, Janice (Richard) Stephens, and Karen (Ray) Hannah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, a sister and her husband, Bonnie and Claire Killian.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Grant Central Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1-2 p.m. prior at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge).
Please bring a written memory of Ray to the Celebration of Life which will be held at 4:30 p.m. following the graveside services at the Veterans Memorial Building, 485 Constitution Way.
