EUGENE, OREGON -- Jack Fitzer died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 91, Jan. 03, 2018, a week after suffering a stroke in Eugene, Oregon. SERVICE: A private burial was held at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene, on Jan. 5, 2018. Being outdoors on a crisp sunny autumn day with the dry leaves rustling in the breeze was his idea of a good day. He was born on Oct. 5 1926, in Joplin, Missouri to William and Lola Overstreet Fitzer. He married Gwendolyn McClellan on April 7, 1950, in Joplin, Missouri. He graduated from University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1951 and from Washington University, Saint Louis, Missouriwith a Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1960 and Doctorate of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1962. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific aboard the USS Chenango (CVE-28). He worked in the aerospace defense industry at Chance Vought, Emerson Electric, and LTV Aerospace. Hewas Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. In 2004, after 38 years of service, he retired as Professor Emeritus, Electrical Engineering Department Chair. He is preceded in death by his wife and one son. SURVIVORS: He is survived by three sons, Philip and Robert in Eugene, Oregon and Stanley of Arlington; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
