Moldovan Statesman. He served two tenures as the Prime Minister of Moldova (January 24, 1997 - March 22, 1998 and May 22, 1998 - February 1, 1999). He graduated from the Agricultural Institute in Odessa with a PhD. in economics. After graduation, he worked as an economist in his hometown of Hadarauti before serving in the Soviet Army from 1963 to 1966. After his military service, he served in the government of his hometown. He was later sent to Moscow to attend a political training course organized by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He went on to serve in numerous government positions in both the Soviet Union and after 1990, the Republic of Moldova. In 1999, he became prime minister of Moldova and served in this position until March 22, 1998 when new elections were held. After the elections proved indecisive, he again became prime minister in May of that year and served until February of 1999 when he stepped down. After leaving public service, he would become a director of the company Interagroinvest.
