DAVID CITY — Leonard J. Helgoth, 79, of David City died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Villa in David City.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Catholic Church at Center, with the Rev. Sean Timmerman as celebrant. Committal will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery at Columbus.
Kracl Funeral Chapel in David City is handling arrangements.

Leonard J. Helgoth was born on Jan. 17, 1939, in David City to Charles and Catherine (Spiecher) Helgoth. He graduated from David City High School. Leonard served in the United States Army.

He lived and farmed on the family farm that was homesteaded in 1883. He was a lifelong Butler County resident and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church at Center. Leonard especially enjoyed working with his brother, nieces and nephews in the Helgoth watermelon business.

Leonard is survived by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Louis; and a sister Lucille Vanis.
