Dorothy E. Schnoes, 93, of Marcus passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Dan Rupp will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Marcus. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Holy Name Catholic Church. The family will be present 5-7 p.m., with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Wednesday.

Dorothy Elizabeth Schnoes was born on May 12, 1924, in Cherokee County, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Regina (Wilberding) Rupp. She was baptized in the Catholic faith at the Visitation Catholic Church at Maryhill, near Cherokee. She received her education at Maryhill Catholic School.

Dorothy and Edward Jacob Schnoes were united in marriage on June 19, 1947, at the Visitation Church. Together, Dorothy and Ed farmed near Marcus, where they started their family and were blessed with three children. They continued farming until 1985, and then retired and moved into Marcus. Ed passed away on February 16, 2005.

Dorothy was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. She served as a lay Eucharistic minister and leader of the rosary. She held various offices in St. Ann’s Guild and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Dorothy also belonged to the Missionary Association Exchange Club. Along with attending her grandchildren’s activities, she participated in Hobby Club and played in card clubs.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children and their spouses, Ron and Barbara Schnoes of Ames, IA, Sandra and Kyle Tapper of Marcus, and Jeffrey and Mylene of Spanish Fort, AL; 12 grandchildren, Jessica Pottebaum, Ryan Schnoes, Jill Smidt, Eric Schnoes, Becky Carmean, Cory Tapper, Jackie Miller, Nick Schnoes, Karl Schnoes, Mike Schnoes, Asia Schnoes, and Christian Schnoes; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Delbert and Marge Rupp of Long Beach, CA, Wayne and Ethel Rupp of Cherokee, IA, and John “Jack” and Ruby Rupp of Ida Grove, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed; a daughter-in-law, Kristine; sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Mount and Kathleen “Kitty” Kohn; and brothers, Richard, Francis, Kenneth, Thomas, and Ralph.
