Harriet, age 97, went to her Heavenly home on March 13, 2018. She was born on November 26, 1920, to Harry and Johannah (Munderloh) Copple. Her father passed away before Harriet was born.

Harriet has been a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft becoming a baptized child of God on January 12, 1921. She was confirmed in her faith at St. Paul’s on May 20, 1934. She married Arthur Ortmann at St. Paul’s on December 25, 1941, while Art was home on leave from the U.S. Army. During World War II she taught country school and later worked in the bomb plant at Mead, NE. When Art returned from the service after the war ended, he and Harriet settled in Bancroft briefly and then spent most of their married life on a farm northwest of Bancroft. Harriet taught Sunday School for many years and was an active member of Altar Guild at St. Paul’s.

Art and Harriet moved to Bancroft after retiring from farming. Harriet moved to West Point for a few years and spent the last 15 or so years in Lincoln where she continued to enjoy life until a fall shortly before Christmas led to her decline.

Harriet was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years and her three siblings, Hal, Hyle (Jimmy) and June. Harriet leaves five children to mourn: Robert (Jan) Ortmann, Omaha; Marcia (Bob) Rabe, Lincoln; John Ortmann, Ord; Mary (Norm) Gehring, Scottsdale, AZ and Lori (Kurt) Gall, Clarkson. Nine grandchildren and a growing number of great-grandchildren brought her joy.
