John C. Van Hoeck, 86, of Marion died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Summit Point Senior Living Community.

Services: Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, by Rev. David O'Connor. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Vigil Service will be held Monday, at 3 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited Monday at 7 p.m., at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit with the family Monday from 3 to 7 p.m., and Tuesday at the church after 9:30 a.m.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Keegan.

John was born December 27, 1931, in Ladora, the son of Charles and Emma Blomme Van Hoeck. He graduated from Norway High School

married Mary Carol Gatens on May 18, 1954 in Norway.

He retired in 1989 after 37 years with Rockwell Collins.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the IBEW 1362, the Catholic Order of Foresters 1360, and the Knights of Columbus Council 5390.

Following his retirement John spent much of his time volunteering with the Catholic Worker House, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, and the Knights of Columbus.

John was a veteran of the Iowa National Guard.

John enjoyed spending time with his family and following the activities of his grandchildren. His grandchildren would bring all of their broken things to grandpa to fix and knew that if he could not fix it, it was not fixable, and it was time to throw it away. John was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.

Instead of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
