Mary C Van Hoeck, 87, of Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha, died Monday, March 7, 2022 at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

Services: Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, by Rev. David O'Connor. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Vigil Service and Rosary will be held Monday, at 4 p.m., at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit with the family Monday from 4 to 7 p.m., and Tuesday at the church after 9:30 a.m.

She is preceded in death by her husband John who died in 2018, a brother Paul Gatens, and two sisters, Rita Garwood and Gaylene Lowder.

Mary was born December 24, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Paul and Helen Geiger Gatens. She graduated from Norway High School in 1952

married John Van Hoeck on May 18, 1954 in Norway.

She retired in 1997 as a Trust Pension Analyst after 19 years with Aegon.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and following the activities of her children and grandchildren.

Mary and John were charter members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church.

Following retirement, John and Mary enjoyed traveling.
Mary enjoyed playing Bingo as well as her visits to Riverside Casino.

She was active in volunteering with Birthright, and the Hiawatha Care Center, and was a huge Hawkeye and Cub fan.

Instead of flowers memorials may be directed to the charity of the donors choice.
