In July of 1846, Carl Anton and his family sailed from Bremen, Germany on the "Caspar Thor" a ship carrying 182 passengers. They crossed the Atlantic in about a month and landed on August 5 at Baltimore, Maryland. The passenger list showed Carl , Elisabeth his wife, Clemens his brother, and children Elisabeth, Agnes, Catherine, Bernhard, and Joseph. Their destination was Cincinnati but they traveled up the Miami-Erie Canal to the Minster area where Carl's brother, Johann Heinrich was already living. Carl purchased a piece of land on 11/27/1848 consisting of 46 acres located at the southwest corner of Schlater and Hilgefort Roads. He sold this plot and another 56 acre plot to his son Johann Heinrich on 11/2/1852, possibly due to ill health.
