Robert Sonnek, 88

Robert Sonnek, age 88, died in Wibaux, Montana August 17, 1992. He was born April 9, 1904 in Wells, Minnesota to Andrew and Frances (Prybylla) Sonnek.

Bob moved to the Golva Community with his family when he was six years old, where they homesteaded. He received his education in the Alpha-Golva vicinity. At the age of 15 he left the family farm and worked on the railroad at Rhame, ND; did some sheepherding; had a star mail route from Alpha to Sentinel Butte; and later began farming on his own.

Sonnek moved to Beach in 1947 due to poor health. In 1949 they (Robert and Helen) purchased the Super Value Store, later purchasing a card room and pool hall and eventually building and operating Bob's Lanes. He retired in 1978 and continued making his home in Beach, until poor health mide it necessary for him to become a resident of the Wibaux Nursing Home.

He was a member of St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach, the Burlington Liar's Club, Beach Senior Citizens, and Author of 'Bob's Baloney.'

Robert Sonnek is survived by his wife, Helen Sonnek, Beach, North Dakota; four sons; Kenneth Sonnek, Livingston, Montana, Maurice Sonnek, Sparks, Nevada, and Merle (Bud) Sonnek, Pierre, South Dakota; Karnes Sonnek, Kalispell, Montana; one daughter Sharon Carney, Rockville, Maryland; and one sister; Sarah Montague, Sun City, Arizona.

He is survived by six grandsons and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Paul, Vincent, Frank and Andrew, and sisters; Sophia and Mary.

A Rosary/Vigil Service was held Wednesday evening at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
