Roman Catholic Saint He was the patron and first bishop of Emly in County Tipperary. A native of Munster, Ailbe was a convert to Christianity and is said to have been consecrated at Rome. He was a friend of St. Patrick and, once his reputation grew, he was styled “another Patrick.” He converted his native province and would have liked to continue his missionary work but was required to remain with King Aengus. He is considered one of the principal fathers of the Irish Church. His feast date is September 12.
