He studied architecture and surveying and accompanied his father to the USA in 1896. He took his Bachelor of Arts at Harvard University in 1899 and then studied to become a minister of the New Jerusalem Church.
He spent most of his adult life living in Philadelphia but bought a parcel of land at Annisquam, Cape Ann, Massachusetts in 1902 on which he built a summer residence for his wife and family.
On retirement, he and his wife moved to live in Pinckney Street, Beacon Hill, Boston.
