George V. Bredehorn of Elgin Private graveside services for George Vernon Bredehorn, 87, will be held at Forest Home Cemetery, Forest Park. Born March 8, 1916, in Chicago, the son of Frederick and Frieda Winters Bredehorn, he passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. George attended Chicago public school, graduated from Northwestern Military and Naval Academy in Lake Geneva, Wis. in 1934 and from the University of Texas in 1938 as a mechanical engineer. He served during World War II with the 865th Engineering Battalion in the South Pacific. George was employed for many years by Ragnar Benson Builders and was a member of of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Elgin. George is survived by his wife, Mary J. "Dort" of Elgin; son, Frederick (Lorna); and grandchildren, Catherine, Matthew, Lawrence and Daniel. He is also survived by Barbara Bull Flanigan and James (Martha) Bull; and granddaughter Caitlin Bull. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Blanco Bredehorn; a sister; and by three brothers. Arrangements were made by Laird Funeral Home, West Dundee.
