Heinrich Wilhelm Otto Emmer was the son of Heinrich Friedrich Emmer and Henriette Wilhelmine Stachow.
Otto Emmer married Alma Elsbeth Friedrichs on April 16, 1906, in Ummendorf, Germany.

(1.) Friedrich Paul Georg Otto Emmer born November 26, 1907, in Helmstedt, Germany
(2.) Hans Wilhelm Heinrich Emmer born June 22, 1909, in Helmstedt, Germany
(3.) Else Charlotte Gertrud Emmer born November 8, 1914, in Helmstedt, Germany.

Onkel Otto and Tante Elsbeth Emmer lived through World War II, and at the war's end in 1945, they witnessed the division of Germany among the allied powers. The city of Helmstedt became part of the British-occupied zone of Germany, and in 1949, Onkel Otto and Tante Elsbeth came citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany, or West Germany.

At his death in 1951, Otto Emmer was survived by his wife of 45 years, Elsbeth Emmer nee Friedrichs; his two sons, Otto Emmer, Jr., and Hans Emmer; his daughter, Gertrud Danker nee Emmer; and his four grandchildren, Peter Emmer, Uta Emmer, Inge Emmer, and Rosmarie Danker.
