At age 21 years he joined the Royal Irish Constabulary on 2 Jan 1894 (RIC No. 56228).
He served in counties - Queen's, Wexford,Reserve, King's, Westmeath, Cork E. R., Monaghan, Belfast and lastly Londonderry City. He was promoted from Constable to Sergeant, then Head Constable and finally District Inspector. He left the RIC on its disbandment in 1922 and then joined the RUC with the rankof district inspector.
He retired in 1931 and continued in the meat-purveying business in Derry.
He died in 1940 after a long illness.
Patrick married Maria Hayes, a civil servant in Tullamore Prison in Tullamore RC Church on 20 September 1905 while he was serving in Mullingar.
