Daniel Scott Kaspar, the son of Emerson and Gloria (Mares) Kaspar was born in Columbus, NE at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Columbus, NE, and later confirmed at St. Edward Catholic Church in St. Edward, NE. Dan attended Happy Hill Platte County School District #65 that was ¼ mile south of his home. At an early age it was his job to go to school early every morning and start the wood stove, so it was warm when the teacher got there. He graduated 8th grade from there and started as a freshman at St. Edward High School. He was an honor student and active in sports and extracurricular activities.

Dan worked for area farmers, Monroe Alfalfa Mill, Biba Construction, and Gerhold Concrete. He was drafted, but unable to serve because of high blood pressure.

On August 12, 1972 Dan was united in marriage to Dorian Ditter at Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe, NE officiated by Rev. J. Roy West and Rev. D.W. Lukes. They made their home in Monroe, NE. Dan left his road construction job and worked for Lightner Lumber in St. Edward for five years, Christensen Construction in Newman Grove and BD Construction in Columbus until retirement for health reasons in 2016. Many years his job involved being away from home for two or three weeks at a time. Dan was well known for his work ethics, attendance, attention to detail, and dedication to doing a good job. He would never turn down an opportunity to work and help others. He had a billfold full of his certification cards for crane operator, CDL, OSHA, HILTI, signal person, and qualified rigger.

Dan grew up hunting and loved to hunt and fish. He also loved to collect and work on classic cars and did so until his arthritis became a limitation for him. Dan was so inventive; he could make a part and fix things that everyone else gave up on. He worked constantly, even his vacations from his job meant he could work at home on his own projects. He was a wonderful husband and father, involved in his children’s activities. He set a good example for them and encouraged them to do their best.

Dan is survived by his wife Dorian of St. Edward, NE; three children: Danelle (Scott) Briske of Westminster, CO; Dr. Kala Kaspar of Lausanne, Switzerland; and Clint (Ashley) Kaspar of Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren: Siaira Baustert, Peyton and Axel Briske, Skylar and Hayden Kaspar; sister Kathy (Ron) Spiegel of Loup City, NE; two brothers: Alan (Renee) Kaspar of Yutan, NE; and Kevin (Bridget) Kaspar of Omaha, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gloria and Emerson Kaspar; brother Terrance Kaspar; sister Carol Shepherd; niece Michele Werts; and nephew Clayton Kaspar.
