Henry W. Hoefelman, 74, died Tuesday afternoon (March 21) at St. Mary's Hospital where he had been taken Sunday following a stroke. He had been in failing health previously. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Gass Funeral home, followed by rites at Immanuel Lutheran church at 2 p.m. The Rev. A. H. Guettler will officiate. Burial will be made in the Columbus cemetery.

Mr. Hoefelman, retired farmer had been living in Columbus for the last three years and before that he farmed in the Grand Prairie community. At one time, he had served as trustee of St. John's Lutheran church of which he was a member. After moving to Columbus he attended Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Hoefelman also served as moderator of District 21 for 36 years. He was born Apr. 24, 1875 in the Grand Prairie community, the won of William and Sophia Kunnerman Hoefelman, and received his education in the rural schools. His marriage to Mary Michelson took place Apr. 18, 1917 at Grand Island, Neb.

Surviving him are his wife, four sisters, Mrs. Emilie Hellbusch of Humphrey, Mrs. Ida Osten, Mrs. Alwina Peterson and Mrs. Clara Gerken, and two brothers, Adolph and Ernest, all of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Edward, three sisters, Mrs. Emma Loseke and two others that died in infancy.

[Note: Henry William had a previous marriage to Lena Miller and they had two children not mentioned in his obituary. The marriage took place on April 14, 1898 and they divorced later. Lena's parents on the Platte county record were shown as Waldrich Miller and (unknown) Brand. The children born to this union were Walter born 1899 and Elsie born 1901 who married Carl Streblow.
