Columbus Nebraska -- Funeral services for Mrs. Emil F. Hellbusch, 83, of Rt. 2, Humphrey, will be held Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at Gass Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran church 14 miles north of Columbus. The Rev. A. H. Guettler will officiate and burial will be in St. John's cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Hellbusch died Wednesday morning (Sept. 23) at Lutheran hospital here after a week's illness.
She was born March 7, 1881 in Platte County, the daughter of William and Sophia Kunnerman Hoefelman, and attended St. John's parochial school. She was married to Emil F. Hellbusch Oct. 24, 1901 at St. John's church and they had since resided in the St. John's community (also called Oldenbusch in some records). Mrs. Hellbusch was a member of St. John's church were she was baptized and confirmed.
She is survived by two daughter's, Mrs. Arnold (Ida) Landwehr of Humphrey, and Mrs. Allen (Vernetta) Becher of Columbus, one son, Elmer of Rt 2, Humphrey, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Hoefelman of Columbus; and three sisters, Mrs. Otto (Ida) Osten, Mrs. Carsten (Alvina) Petersen, and Mrs. Herman (Clara) Gerken, Columbus. Mrs. Hellbusch was preceded in death by her husband, one son Bernard of Humphrey, three brothers, Will, Edward and Adolph, all of Columbus; a sister, Mrs. Otto (Emma) Loseke of Platte Center and two infant sisters.
