He was born Sept. 13, 1911, in Park Falls. His parents were Charles and Anna (Hilgart) Herbst. He was a life-long resident of Park Falls. He married Loretta Ehmke June 2, 1956, in Aberdeen, SD. He worked for Doerings at the Pike Lake Dam for 42 years, retiring when it was sold to the federal government. He then helped his wife manage and care for the Flambeau Paper Mill Lodge for eight years. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife; two step-daughters, Sharon (Peter) Movrich of Elk Mound and Judith (Jerry) Hext of Phoenix, AZ; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
