Helga was born on July 4, 1939, in Prussisch, Holland, to Robert and Gertrude (Kunkel) Fehlauer. She married her best friend, Rolf Altena on Feb. 15, 1965, in New York City. The couple lived most of their married life in Glenville, Conn., until 1997 when they moved to Bayfield. In 2014 the couple made their last move to St. Cloud, Minn., to be closer to family.

She worked several jobs after immigrating to the United States, which included Braun Electric and Con Edison in New York. She was a stewardess on American Airlines, drove a rich lady across the country on Highway 66 and actually did some modeling for several clothing designers in New York. Helga enjoyed watching hockey, especially her son and grandson play.

Helga is survived by her son Eric of Rice; grandson Braden of St. Cloud and her brother Dirk Fehlauer of Hanover, Germany.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rolf (March 3, 2015), her parents and her brother, Jorgen Fehlauer.
