Reinhold Schneider was a Christian writer. His anti-Nazi and anti-war writings earned him a professional ban during the Nazi era, but then widespread recognition after the second world war, e.g. the prestigious Peace Prize of the German Book Trade ("Friedenspreis des Deutschen Buchhandels") in 1956.
Reinhold Schneider was the son of the hotel-owning couple Willy and Wilhelma Schneider. His mother, Wilhelma Schneider, was the daughter of Wilhelm Messer, who developed the "Hotel Messmer" founded by his father into one of the best addresses in Baden-Baden. The later Emperor Wilhelm I and his wife Augusta were regular guests here. Today the "Maison Messmer" is a five-stars hotel.
The brother of the grandfather of Reinhold Schneider, Wilhelm Messmer, was Eduard Messmer the founder of the tea brand "Messmer Tee", which still exists today.
