Bernhard Fricke was a pioneer of Washington, Franklin County, Missouri, who arrived about 1832 and kept a tavern in a little log cabin on the southwest corner of Jefferson and Main Street. He kept the tavern which was frequented by newcomers to the area for about twelve years. Between 1848 and 1850, he added an addition which was called the Washington House. Before he became a hotel keeper, he was a saddler by profession. The first German ball held in Washington was at the Fricke house.

He was born in Prussia about 1799. He was married to Elise who was born in Prussia in 1806. They had at least one son, Charles Adolph who was born in 1831. Charles died in 1876 and Bernhard died in 1882.
