Rose Berdelle Ludden, 85, of Newman Grove, formerly of Lindsay, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay, with the Rev. James Novotny celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. on Monday, also at the church.

Rose Berdelle was born Jan. 23, 1934, in Lindsay, to Rudolph and Elizabeth (Wiese) Shanle.

She attended District 64 School. She worked for several families doing housekeeping.

On Feb. 9, 1953, Berdelle was united in marriage to Lawrence Laska, and to this marriage three children were born: Larry, Diane, and Marlene. They lived off the Lindsay Highway between Lindsay and Genoa.

On Nov. 5, 1960, Lawrence passed away.

Berdelle and her family then moved to Lindsay, where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Lindsay Co-op.

On Feb. 14, 1968, she married Mark Ludden. To this union, two children were born: Paul and Kim.

They lived on a farm North of Lindsay, where Berdelle helped with the farm chores, including raising chickens and gathering eggs. She later went to work at the cafeteria at Holy Family School.

Berdelle enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several card clubs. She was a member of the Christian Mothers, the Holy Family Guild, and was president of the Legion Auxiliary for over 10 years. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, and Nebraska football. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Berdelle is survived by daughter, Diane Brentzel of Grand Island, daughter, Marlene Wegener of Yankton, South Dakota, son, Paul Ludden of Laramie, Wyoming, daughter, Kim (Scott) Ehlers of Waco; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joan (Larry) Korth of Creston; sister, Betty (Ken) Bender of Columbus, brother, Ray (Sheila) Shanle of Crescent City, California; many nieces and nephews.

Berdelle was preceded in death by parents, Rudolph and Elizabeth Shanle; husband, Lawrence Laska;
husband, Mark Ludden; son, Larry Laska; brother, Norman (Helen) Shanle, brother, Alvin (Dorothy) Shanle, brother, Francis (Marylee) Shanle, brother, Leland “Junior” Shanle, sister, Rita Formanek, sister, Lorraine (Dick) Snyder.
