Donald Joseph “Don” Bloemer, 65, of Green Creek, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Green Creek, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fear Nothing or the donor’s choice.

Donald was born on March 2, 1953, in Effingham, IL, the son of Francis J. “Bud” and Marie E. (Probst) Bloemer. He was united in marriage to Mary J. Mette on June 7, 1975.

Don was the owner of Bloemer Construction for 30 years and dedicated himself to his life’s work of building homes for other people. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved being outside and taking care of his animals, horses, and dogs. He also liked picking raspberries, blackberries, and mushroom hunting. He was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary (Mette) Bloemer of Green Creek; daughter, Leslie (Glen) Ruholl of Lillyville; sons, Jake (Lisa) Bloemer of Lillyville and Russ (Mandy) Bloemer of Green Creek; grandchildren, Will, Zachary, Tate, and Amelia Ruholl, Nicholas, Evan, and Mitch Bloemer, and Alivia, Max, Maci, and Bo Bloemer; siblings, Oscar (Norma) Bloemer, Darlene (Louis) Esker, Ron (Vickie) Bloemer, Linda (Phil) Stalling, Carol (Ron) Wendt, Shirley (David) Reha, Marilyn (Rem) Woodruff, Theresa (Bill) Hardiek, Rosalie (Tom) Westendorf, Patty (Joe) Jansen, Julie (Bruce) Willenborg, Connie (Darrell) Brinkmann, Cindy (Chris) Fraterrigo, and Tony (Lisa) Bloemer; and sisters-in-law, Margie (Art) Bloemer and Dolores (Kurt) Jansen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Marie (Probst) Bloemer; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roman and Amelia Mette; and a sister in infancy, Mary Bloemer.
