Eli Winkel, 72, Route 2, Waupun, died early Sunday morning at Waupun Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for the past month. He was born in the Netherlands on Nov. 12, 1898, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Winkel.
At the age of 21 he came from the Netherlands to Waupun where he met the former Jennie DeVries. They were married shortly after and the couple farmed in the Town of Trenton until 1945 when they moved to their present address.
He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Waupun. Survivors include one son, Sam Winkel, Waupun; three daughters, Mrs. John Fisher, Mrs. Emmet Fisher and Mrs. Garrit Mulder, all of Waupun; 15 grandchildren, and two brothers and one sister still in the Netherlands.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1957, two brothers and one grandson.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Reformed Church, Waupun, with the Rev. John H. DeHaan officiating. Burial will be in Forest Mound Cemetery.
Friends may call at Werner-Beyers Funeral Home in Waupun from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
