Walter Kulas, 86, of the Riverview section of Parks Township, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, in UPMC Shadyside. He was born March 5, 1920, in Lusesco, Allegheny Township, a son of the late John and Emily Teprag Kulas, and had lived in the Kiski Valley all his life. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and had been employed at the Bagdad Works of Allegheny Ludlum in the finishing department until his retirement. Mr. Kulas was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Leechburg, a life member of the Apollo-Spring Church Sportsman's Club and a longtime member of the Parks Township Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed yard work, playing his accordion and listening to polkas. His special enjoyment was fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandson. Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Kerr, of Vandergrift; his grandchildren, Jason (Cindy) Kerr, of Bell Township, Jaret (Jennifer) Kerr, Jamie Kerr and Jordy Kerr, and his great-grandson, Ethan Kerr, all of Vandergrift; two brothers, Leonard Kulas, of Carlisle, and Ted Kulas, of Allegheny Township; and two sisters, Stephanie Caporali, of West Leechburg, and Lottie Kochmanski, of Leechburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Pastva Kulas, in 1986. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Christ the King Catholic Church, Leechburg, with Father Joseph Trupkovich as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Catherine Cemetery, Gilpin Township.
