Dr. Saul Bernstein, 90 died Sunday night at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville.

Dr. Bernstein was born in New York City. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School, and graduated from NYU in 1932 with a BS in Chemistry. From 1932-37 he attended the University of Vienna Medical School in Vienna, Austria. Upon receiving his degree, Dr. Bernstein was a resident at Bellevue Hospital in New York. He served as a Major in the US Army Medical Corps from June 1942-Feb. 1946, during which time he was in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Bronze Star and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. When he returned to New York, he opened a private practice and remained on staff at both Beth Israel and Bellevue Hospitals. Dr. Bernstein was active in his practice until his retirement and relocation to Durham in 1992. He was a member of Beth-El Temple.

Dr. Bernstein was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn M. Bernstein.

Dr. Bernstein is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Roslyn and Dr. Peter Mannon of Chevy Chase, MD; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Bernstein and Maria Lopez, and their son, Peter Lopez of New York City; granddaughters, Elinor and Olivia Mannon.
