KRETZ, Alois "Al"
In his 99th year, Al passed peacefully at Linhaven Home for the Aged on Friday, March 6th, while surrounded by his son Craig, daughter Holly and son-in-law Tom. Proud Papa of Emma-Kate and Elizabeth Baker. Al was predeceased by his wife Norma (2007). Dear brother of Tony, Frank, Agnes, Bert and John. Brother-in-law to Margaret Kretz, Nancy Haworth and Nan O'Brien. Predeceased by his siblings Walther, Ann, Alphonse, Theresa, Sr. Mary, John, Joe and Conrad. Born in Switzerland on May 7, 1916 to Sophie and Conrad Kretz, Al emigrated to Canada in 1923 with his family.
Al worked at GM for many years and spent his retirement travelling and enjoying his gardens. He was a devoted member of St. Alfred Parish for over 50 years, where he was an usher and dedicated supporter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Al also volunteered with the Out of the Cold program for many years.
Mr. Kretz's family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street on Sunday, March 8th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, March 9th at St. Alfred's Catholic Church, 272 Vine Street at 11am. Rite of Committal following in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30pm.
The family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Linhaven Home who cared for Al so lovingly. Dad always supported those who were in need and so, in accordance with his wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society-St. Alfred Conference- would be appreciated by the family.
